Jimmy Wales Visits the Academy
We were very privileged to welcome Jimmy Wales the founder of Wikipedia to the Academy on the 1st February to speak to our Post 16 Students. Wikipedia is the 5th most used website in the world, translated into over 200 languages. The organisation is not for profit relying on donations and volunteers.
After numerous attempts to launch a successful website and countless failures Mr Wales spoke eloquently about success and failure. To learn from mistakes, not be afraid to make mistakes and to move on and not dwell on past failures.
He inspired, excited and encouraged our students to try new ventures and not be afraid of failure, through hard work and determination you can succeed. Many of our students will be going onto University and his words have made them really think about their futures.
Our students were given ample opportunity to ask questions, their questioning elicited deep insight into the world of technology and the life of an entrepreneur.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to listen and engage with such a successful giant in the world of technology.
