It's Summer . . .
Now that summer is here at last, please remember how important it is to keep yourselves protected from the sun’s harmful rays and the problems heat could cause. If you are participating in any outdoor activities, use sun cream and a hat. Remember to always make sure you drink plenty of water.
Academic Review Day
Letters have been sent home to parents with an appointment time to meet with their child’s Tutor Mentor on Academic Review Day on 19 July 2006. If you need to change your appointment time, please complete the slip at the foot of your letter and return it to Ms Reeves in the Administration Office. Students need to attend the appointment wearing full school uniform.
International Day
On Friday 21 July 2006, we are going to bring the wider world into the Academy. We want to broaden the students’ minds, knowledge and experience on world issues and want to help them recognise their contribution and responsibilities as the young people of a global community. I hope we can make this a day to remember!

Gifted & Talented Trip to Oxford

On 8 June, Mrs Nightingale and Miss Bowman accompanied five year 8 Aimhigher students nominated by the Gifted and Talented co-ordinator to an ‘Introduction to University’ day at Oxford University.  The day was organized by the Oxford Access scheme.  The students – Burcen Ahmet, Sara Danso, Grace Evans, Danny Kelly and Marina Wareing - experienced university-style teaching, with masterclasses in Anglo-Saxon runes and the importance of smell to all animals!  They were able to question current students on life at university, before venturing out into the city for a scavenger hunt where they showed no hesitation in approaching students with big beards to request photographs.
Our students were complimented on their confidence and articulacy by both the course leader and the teacher accompanying another school group; they were a credit to the Academy and it was a pleasure to introduce them to Oxford.
