3T's Walk to School
60% of Class 3T walked to school this week, which was a really good effort considering the rain! Some children did play “I Spy” as suggested in the “Walk to School” pamphlet. It was definitely a positive experience as they made friends, kept fit, had fun and learnt some new things. So well done to them, congratulations and keep it up!

Just a reminder that the French Club will be starting after the half term holidays on: Monday 12 June 2006, 3.30-4.30pm
RE Guest Speaker
As mentioned in last weeks newsletter Year 4 were lucky to have Mrs Gill, one of our parents, come in to talk about the Sikh faith. Mrs Gill brought in artefacts and sweets and discussed the history, clothing and symbols associated with life as a Sikh. The children were able to share their existing knowledge from RE lessons, and develop a greater understanding and respect of another faith. A big thank you to Mrs Gill!
Poems by 5P
We have been doing some performance poems in 5P.

I Feel Delighted
by Tolu Ogunware

When I have my chocolate ice-cream
When I sleep and when I dream
I feel delighted

When I play with my toy car
When I romp about in the park
When I make mischief in the dark
I feel delighted

When I do art
When I borrowed the toy ark
In church when they say I have to do an act
I feel delighted

When I watch cartoons in the night
When the rain is out of sight
When someone stops a fight I feel delighted

I Feel Sad
by Molly Rice-Sherwood

When I’m on my own
When my dad picks a bone
When I drop the ice-cream cone
I feel sad

When a film is moving
When my baby brother’s toothing
When it’s rocks they are throwing
I feel sad

When my hair gets cut shorter
When my head went underwater
When he gets half and I get a quarter
I feel sad

When my brother’s sneakin’
When he’s peekin’
When Phoebe’s is cheekin’
I feel sad

When I get into trouble
When someone bursts my bubble
When I don’t get a cuddle
I feel sad

Eco Committee
The Eco-committee have been responsible for recycling waste paper in the school and nursery for several weeks and last week they received a visit in the primary lab from Sarah Evans, Waste Education Officer, from the Schools Waste Action Club (SWAC), Bexley Council, to learn how to convert the waste paper into recycled paper.

The children learned how the paper could be soaked and shredded before being blended into pulp. The pulp was then coloured with paint and decorated with glitter. The pulp was added to water in a deep tray and mixed. The mesh frame was immersed in the pulp and trawled backwards and forwards six or seven times before being lifted out of the pulp and the water allowed to drain off.

Next, the frame was inverted onto 7 layers of j-cloth and sponged to remove any more water. Finally, the pulp sheet was covered with a pad of newspaper and flipped over before peeling back the j-cloth leaving the sheet of pulp to dry into a recycled sheet of paper.

On Wednesday, the Eco-committee demonstrated their skill and their paper to the rest of KS2 in Assembly. They will be helping some of their teachers and Year 7 teachers to run a lesson for their  classes in paper-making. Hopefully, some of the recycled paper will be popping up all over the school in the children's work and displays.

The more paper that we can recycle the fewer trees we will destroy and the less carbon dioxide there will be in the atmosphere to increase global warming. Well done to all the children who give their time to help in this worthwhile project. The future is theirs and they are helping to protect it.
