The Garrard Academy (formerly The Business Academy Bexley) is celebrating its best ever GCSE results despite a new, more challenging English and Maths syllabus, tougher exams and a new numerical grading system.
58% of its students achieved five good passes including English and Maths and one in five students achieved a A-A** equivalent.
Interim Principal Mark Cleave said, “I am really thrilled that the hard work and dedication of the students and their teachers has been rewarded with such amazing results. In my twenty years of teaching I have never seen more determination to succeed: whether at seven in the morning for extra maths, late after school for all the other subjects or every Saturday, nothing was too much trouble. We have always had amazing students and now these students have amazing results!”
Lewis Knights, Chair of Governors commented, “The governors are delighted with the results. It has been a challenging year for staff and students and they have responded very positively to this challenge, exceeding all expectations. The Academy will join the Harris Federation on 1 September in a strong position. I wish the Academy, its staff and students every success in the future.”
